After full-sized trucks, these are America’s most popular vehicles. Check them out.
Honda CR-V: This crossover does almost everything extremely well. This year it even got a hybrid option that increases its already excellent 40mpg fuel economy. The turbo-four engine is potent and is paired to a smooth CVT gearbox. On the inside, it’s very comfortable, has the clever folding seats, and a lot of practical storage spaces. The interior is also spacious, and the CR-V is good to drive too.
Subaru Forester: This crossover is adventurous with its all-wheel drive. It’s styled like a tall wagon, but is extremely capable and has great crash-test scores. The interiors are comfortable and attractive. The standard four-cylinder is a little underpowered but performs adequately. It also offers great value.
Mazda CX-5: This very nice looking crossover looks like it belongs in the luxury segment. But it costs nearly the same as its direct competitors. Despite the price, it offers luxurious and classy interiors, sophisticated ride and handling, and superb looks. It’s also fully loaded and has an optional smooth turbocharged engine. It’s an excellent choice.
Jeep Wrangler: This is the only old-school, body-on-frame SUV in this list of crossovers. Its refinement and driving dynamics are awful. Its ride is firm, handling is floaty, steering is loose, and sound insulation is non-existent. But it’s a beast for those who love off-road adventures. It happily sticks to its tradition and ruggedness.
Toyota RAV4: This is the bestselling compact crossover in America today. It has many specialized variants, including a TRD Off-Road trim and a hybrid. Its many variants allow it to meet the requirements of numerous crossover buyers who like its modern interior, long list of standard safety technology, and sharp styling. The engine makes a little noise, but overall the RAV4 is excellent.
Ford Escape: Ford’s crossover looks appealing, but that’s all there seems to be. The interiors aren’t great; the powertrain is basic and unrefined. There are two hybrid options, too, one of which is a plug-in hybrid and has a novel turbocharged engine with three-cylinders. It isn’t great, but the Ford Escape is a solidly good car.
